It's late and you've got the tabs open on porn sites. You know the routine: scroll, click, close. Scroll, click, close. Everything's almost it. Nothing's quite it.
That's not on you. That's the buffet.
Because that's what every site you've ever used really is. A buffet. Someone else decided what to make, made it a year ago, and left it out under a heat lamp for ten million other guys to pick at.
You don't get to choose. You take what's on the tray. And if the exact thing you want isn't out today, tough. Come back tomorrow and pick at the same cold trays.
You've done this for years and never once noticed the one thing you were never allowed to do.
Order.
Think about it. You order everything else on earth exactly how you want it. Your coffee. Your car. Dinner, down to the side and how it's cooked.
But the most personal thing there is? You take it off a buffet line. Reheated. Generic. Made for everyone, which means made for no one.
Nobody has ever handed you a menu and asked what you actually want.
Here's what changed.
There's a kitchen now that doesn't cook a thing in advance. Nothing sits out. Nothing is made for anybody but you.
You write the order, her, the scene, the specific thing you've never been able to find anywhere, and the kitchen makes it.
Fresh, from scratch, in about the time it took you to read this paragraph.
The first plate comes out close. So you send it back. More of this, less of that, change the one detail that has never been right on any tray you've ever picked from.
And it changes.
You keep ordering until it stops being "close enough" and becomes the thing you actually came here for.
You already know what you'd order. You thought of it before you finished that last line.
The specific one.
The one that was never on any menu, because nobody ever bothered to make something that exact for one person.
It doesn't exist yet.
That is the only reason you've never seen it.
Not because it's too much. Because nobody took the order.
The kitchen is open right now. Your first order is ready to be taken and it lands on your screen in seconds.
You write it, it gets made.
The buffet will still be here tomorrow. Cold, picked over, exactly the same as tonight.
Or you place an order.
